WORKSHOP BOLLYWOOD WITH KOUVAKA HELEN -ATHENS
The participants of the seminar will have the opportunity to learn steps, expressions and theory on the “Aplam Chaplam” song by C. Ramchandra, from the 1955 “Azad” film. Through the choreography teaching we will examine how Bollywood Retro Style differs from other kinds and what are its basic characteristics. The lesson is addressed to Bollywood dancers and not, but at least advanced level dancers, who are interested in exploring the Golden Age of Indian Cinema.

Kouvaka Helen She was born and raised in Athens.
Since five years old she has been involved in athletics. She was an athlete of the Artistic Gymnastics of athletic club “EIRINI” PERISTERIOU, with distinctions in international and pan-Hellenic championships.
She is a graduate of the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and also of “Iakovos Kampanellis” Higher School of Drama in the Municipality of Agia Varvara.
From the age of eight she has been involved with Greek Traditional Dances and Theater. She has attended the three-year training of “Dora Stratou” Theater School, as well as courses at “DROMENA” Greek Dances and Folklore Studies Association.
In 2003 she collaborated as an actor with the Theatrical Organization “Forms of Expression” in the theatrical show “Distant & other Tales” directed by Thoma Kindinis.
She was a founding member of the “Exercise” Theater Company, where from 2005 to 2008 she participated as an actor in the theater shows of “America Hurrah” by Jean Claude Van Itallie and “Cherry Orchard” by Anton Chekhov, under the direction of Pericles Moustakis.
Since her early years as a university student she was coaching & instructing Artistic, Rhythmic and Gymnastics for All.
Her student athletes have participated in dozens of Gymnastics for All Festivals and Dance Competitions with great distinctions.
At the same time she teaches Greek Traditional Dances and Theatrical play.
In 2015 Bollywood comes to her life in an effort to get herself into the student’s place and come in contact with the multiculturalism of the dance in general.
She is a member of the 1st Bollywood Dance Academy in Greece, where she graduated in July 2017 with a recognized CID-UNESCO certification.
In July 2016 she participated, as choreographer at the 3rd International Bollywood Dance Competition in the Group category, where her team won the gold medal.
In the following year, she participated in the solo category and she was voted Bollywood Star of the Year 2017 winning the gold medal.
Always supporting the phrase “Old is Gold,” her work has always been linked to the past and the roots of Bollywood, always trying to find a creative way to link past & today through research
Κουβακά Ελένη Γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στην Αθήνα.
Απο τα πέντε της χρόνια ασχολήθηκε με τον πρωταθλητισμό. Υπήρξε αθλήτρια της Ενόργανης Αγωνιστικής Γυμναστικής του Γ.Α.Σ «ΕΙΡΗΝΗ» ΠΕΡΙΣΤΕΡΙΟΥ με διακρίσεις σε διασυλλογικά και πανελλήνια πρώταθλήματα.
Είναι απόφοιτη του Τμήματος Επιστήμης Φυσικής Αγωγής και Αθλητισμού του Εθνικού Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών και της Ανώτερης Δραματικής Σχολής του Δήμου Αγίας Βαρβάρας «Ιάκωβος Καμπανέλλης».
Από τα οκτώ της χρόνια ασχολήθηκε με τους Ελληνικούς Παραδοσιακούς Χορούς και το Θέατρο. Έχει παρακολουθήσει την τριετή εκπαίδευση της σχολής του Θεάτρου της Δόρας Στράτου καθώς και μαθήματα στο Σωματείο Ελληνικών Χορών και Λαογραφικών μελετών «ΔΡΩΜΕΝΑ».
Το 2003 συνεργάστηκε ως ηθοποιός με το Θεατρικό Οργανισμό «Μορφές Έκφρασης» στην παράσταση «Ιστορίες Μακρυνές κι Αλλιώτικες» σε σκηνοθεσία Θωμά Κινδύνη.
Υπήρξε ιδρυτικό μέλος της Εταιρίας Θεάτρου «Άσκηση» όπου για το διάστημα 2005-2008 συμμετείχε ως ηθοποιός στις παραστάσεις «America Hurrah» του Jean Claude Van Itallie και «Βυσσινόκηπος» του Άντον Τσέχωφ σε σκηνοθεσία Περικλή Μουστάκη.
Από τα πρώτα της χρόνια ως φοιτήτρια έχει ενεργή παρουσία στο χώρο της προπονητικής διδάσκοντας Ενόργανη, Ρυθμική και Γενική Γυμναστική.
Οι αθλήτριες της έχουν συμμετάσχει σε δεκάδες Φεστιβάλ Γενικής Γυμναστικής και Διαγωνισμους Χορού με σπουδαίες διακρίσεις.
Παράλληλα δίδασκει Ελληνικούς Παραδοσιακούς Χορούς και Θεατρικό παιχνίδι.
Το 2015 μπήκε στη ζωή της το Bollywood πάνω σε μια προσπάθεια να μπει η ίδια στη θέση του μαθητή και να έρθει σε επαφή με την πολυπολιτισμικότητα του χορού γενικότερα.
Αποτελεί μέλος της 1st Bollywood Dance Academy Greece από όπου και αποφοίτησε τον Ιούλιο του 2017 με αναγνωρισμένη πιστοποίηση της CID-UNESCO.
Τον Ιούλιο του 2016 συμμετείχε ως χορογράφος στον 3rd Ιnternational Bollywood Dance Competition στην κατηγορία των Group όπου και η ομάδα της κέρδισε το χρυσό μετάλιο. Την επόμενη χρονία συμμετείχε η ίδια στην κατηγορία των Solo και χρίστηκε Bollywood Star of the Year 2017 κερδίζοντας το χρυσό μετάλιο.
Υποστηρίζοντας πάντα τη φράση “Old is Gold”, η δουλειά της έχει πάντα συνδέσεις με το παρελθόν και τις ρίζες του Bollywood προσπαθώντας πάντα μέσα από την έρευνα να συναντά το σήμερα με δημιουργικό τρόπο.
